National Test Centre for Circular Plastics (NTCP), Heerenveen, The Netherlands

With its strong colour palette, innovative materials and pioneering use, the new National Test Centre for Circular Plastics offers an optimistic outlook on the future of plastics.

The Project

Located in the north of the Netherlands, the National Test Centre for Circular Plastics was certainly built to make an impact. Its eye-catching and playful façade, reminiscent of children’s building blocks, acts as a visual indicator for the creativity taking place within as the independent test and development centre seeks to make 100% of plastic waste reusable. By using Kingspan QuadCore™ Architectural Wall Panels for these external walls, the building also ensures its sustainable and circular purpose is encapsulated within its very fabric.

A fun future (Design)

120mm QuadCore® AWP panels were selected for the project in six distinct colours:
•    Kingspan XL Forte Grey White,
•    Kingspan XL Forte Cornflower Blue,
•    Kingspan XL Forte Leafgreen,
•    Kingspan Spectrum Traffic Red,
•    Kingspan Spectrum Yellow,
•    Kingspan Spectrum Dahlia Yellow. These were fixed horizontally in a stack bond pattern with a seemingly random distribution of colours to create the illusion of building blocks. This bold and cheerful appearance has been well-received by workers and visitors to the business park alike and, thanks to the highly resistant Spectrum and XL Forte coatings, will stand the test of time.
